Georgia Congresswoman Files Resolution to Prohibit Donald Trump from U.S. Capitol

U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA-05) this month submitted a resolution that would, if enacted, forbid former U.S. President Donald Trump from entering the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

The resolution directs that the U.S. Capitol Police and other entities ban Trump from entering the U.S. Capitol at any time after he left office.

“President Trump has shown time and time again that he is a danger to our democracy and a threat to the country,” Williams said in a press release that she posted on her Facebook page Tuesday.

“His actions on January 6 caused a deadly attack on the Capitol and for that reason he should not be allowed into the Capitol. The resolution I introduced directs the House and Senate Sergeants at Arms, as well as the Capitol police, to update their regulations to prohibit the President from entering the Capitol once he leaves office.”

Williams did not elaborate or provide evidence to show that Trump personally directed people to attack the U.S. Capitol.

In her press release, Williams said that the U.S. House of Representatives must “prevent the president [Trump] from inflicting further damage and disruption of Congressional business.”

Williams was not available for comment Thursday.

The Sergeants at Arms and the U.S. Capitol Police maintain security in the Capitol and the House and Senate buildings. They have internal regulations specifying who and what is allowed into the U.S. Capitol. Concurrent resolutions are not binding. The current U.S. president does not sign them, so they do not have the full force of law.

Williams, on her Facebook page this week, praised U.S. President Joe Biden as someone who, she said, will end the COVID-19 pandemic. She also praised the president for rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement.

Williams also said on Facebook that “Georgia “is lucky to have Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff as our senators.”

Members of the Georgia Republican Party did not return The Georgia Star News’ request for comment Thursday.

I supposed this is the way for a obscure, and apparently dumb, representative to get a little press coverage. Looks like Georgia has really gone down the tubes for good.
